Abstract:
Socio-economic and political changes which swept through Africa in the 1980s had a major impact on African universities; including the University of Dar-es-Salaam. In response to these changes, the University of Dar-es-Salaam embarked on a self-controlled strategic planning exercise starting in 1989. The model adopted by the University of Dar-es-Salaam and the lessons learnt are summarized in this paper.
