Abstract:
This paper examines the ways in which the sociopolitical setting in Uganda has influenced the evolution and functioning of universities in the country. It examines the roles that have been popularly associated with the universities; the political and anthropological perspectives of the setting out of which the universities have arisen; and the way they function in this setting. It concludes that the development of universities in the country has been, and continues to be, an epiphenomenon of the sociopolitical base.
