Abstract:
In this chapter, Nji provides an overview of the significance of distance education as an effective strategy to increase wider access to educational opportunities. Distance education may be seen as a viable alternative mode of educational delivery for adult learners. The author analyses the problems with on-campus instruction amongst other factors that preclude the ability of individuals to seek further education. An account of the needs assessment and distance education at the University of Dschang, Cameroon is given. Nji maintains that in Africa, distance learning is being proposed as an effective strategy for capacity building and human resources development.
